Scammers

This is sooooo funny.  Got a call a couple of nights ago from Roberts brother...just as a side note (T, is up to his receding hairline in debt).

He tells me he just received this letter forwarded to him from the nursing home his and Roberts mother lived in before she passed away... The letter was in an envelope post marked ITALY....and was allegedly from a Spanish Lawyer named Guillermo Lopez....hahahahah gave some official looking address yada yada yada....  Dear Makepeace  sorry for this unsolicited letter but you share the same last name as a client of mine who recently passed away leaving 8.8 million US dollars in a vault, that will be claimed by the Spanish government in the new year....If I do not find a living relative to inherit...and while I know you are not related to Mr. Anthony Makepeace...hahahahha   I feel if I present you as an heir, given your sharing the same last name that the court would accept that and we could share the money....50/50.....  hahahaha

they give a bunch of numbers for you to contact  yada yada yada.....

I googled him....its definitely a scam and there are hundreds of people emailing a Spanish on line legal aide site asking if these lawyers are legitimate...hahahaha   of course they're not....and the real lawyers in Spain are outraged that this taking place.... apparently it was started by Nigerian transplants living in Spain and has recently expanded to include some Brit's and French...they have a ring...using many different names....but the ultimate goal is to either get your bank account number to which they would transfer your share of funds into....(ya right !!)   or asking you to send funds to a bank account somewhere from which they might pay for any unforeseen costs in attaining this so called fortune...hahahahahah. Sadly these low lifes target seniors.

I told Robert it was a scam right away..and after reading the letter he agreed...we googled and found out all we needed to know but when Robert let his brother know (who is not computer literate)  he was very disappointed...OMG.... I have to say I was surprised, because if you knew T, you would never have taken him for someone who would fall for a con....he is the most sceptical person I have ever met next to myself . But I guess, greed and desperation make us do stupid things....I hope he didn't go ahead and answer the letter on his own by snail mail...he says he didn't but I am not sure if he would tell us the truth....
