Today started like any other day...and then it all went sideways... it looked really nice out this morning, sun shining, blue sky and puffy white clouds...but that wind...well, straight from the arctic....it was a -30 wind chill out there...and we had three babies born out there today...
Breakfast was the first order of the day...and then Robert heads outside and I hit the mat and did my work out...so the docs says, USE IT OR LOSE IT....gotta keep the old joints limber... finished in time to make lunch...Now I should say that yesterday I kept getting this stinging pain in my left arm and shoulder area... (ya I thought I was having a heart attack too) but No...it was just a portent of things to come...I should have known...but in my defense it has been four years since I suffered from this problem..but now that the all seeing, all knowing doctors have stopped all my meds...and are you ready for this, tell me that I DO NOT, DO NOT have LUPUS....so they took me off the meds...and want me to wait and see what happens...then he rubbed his hands together...like a kid about the unwrap a Christmas present and said...that he actually hopes something does happen...that would make it easier for him to diagnose what is ailing me.... Uhhhh, hello, person in excruciating pain over here....What ? You want me to wait three months?... In the mean time, I am being reminded why I was referred to a rheumatologist in the first place because after only a week, I don't think there is one bone or joint in my body that doesn't hurt...which brings me back to the story of my arm...so last night I was awakened at
3:17 am...and my first conscious thoughtwas that someone has pinned my arm to the mattress with two very dull, but sharp enough to do damage, butcher knives...and I actually glance over to my left arm..to see them...but no, no knives... but holy hell did my arm hurt... I eventually dragged my sorry ass out of bed and to the can then the med drawer for Tylenol...I took four...double the dose...and flopped back in bed...the last time I glanced at the clock before I lost consciousness again it said 5:05 am... Robert came in at 6 am...and woke me up, and damned if my arm still wasn't aching like hell....so at lunch...( my arm still throbbing away) he can see that I am in pain and pushes his heavy duty muscle relaxants on me...I hate taking them cause they make me groggy...but the pain is bad enough that I cave in and take one...reasoning that I would just crash on the bed and sleep it off...so as I am heading towards the bedroom he calls from the back room...to come out to the barn and help tag those calves...so I change course and pile on the parka and mitts...and away we go...Man is it brisk out there....and I definitely should have taken the time to dress warmer...but I reasoned that I wouldn't be out that long..
5 hours later....I finally made it back to the house...my arm hurting more than before and now my ankle is killing me and I have a lump on my right knee .
Oh we tagged the calves alright ...and then he just needed my help to move a couple of pipe gates so he could clean the barn...but a couple of the pens needed cleaning so could I do that while he goes to change the fork on the tractor for the bucket....so I cleaned three pens and moved gates...then when I stepped outside while he pushed the shit through the barn with the tractor...I spied another cow calving in the adjacent pen....so we had to bring her in and then while chasing her across the frozen bedding pack, with large piles of frozen cow turd everywhere...I placed my bad foot on uneven ground and wrenched it bad enough that I lost my balance and fell on my other knee, which hit said "frozen turd" and hurt like a bitch..I then pitched forward into the straw, all I can say is thank god there wasn't any soft manure there to break my fall. So now I have a sizable knot on my right knee cap and it is swollen. While chasing that cow around on the straw, because she was too stupid to follow her calf (that Robert was pulling in the sleigh) into the barn, I saw that a heifer was doing the water bag dance..and sure enough...she was calving..too...Robert wanted to go do his feeding chores so I said I would stay and watch the heifer....she calved an hour later...I pulled the calf in the barn and finally went to the house...just in time to make supper....so now...I am all drugged up and hoping to fall asleep before the drugs wear off...please God, let me sleep through the night...it is sooooo hard to push myself in my workout when I hurt so bad...
