Who knew there was such a thing as age appropriate food.... I mean come on...
We, on the spur of the moment, (because spontaneity is our middle name) decided to invite some friends down for a meal this evening....only one couple could come (that's the problem with spontaneity) so that was okay but what to cook...it is soooooo horrible here right now...+25, with no wind and high humidity..and F'ing BC forest fire smoke so thick we can't see across the valley...we can even smell it badly today..and it makes my sinus's burn, oh, anyway, I didn't want to heat the house up too much...with having the stove on and we do not own a barbecue....so sue us...so I decided to make tacos.... soft tacos to be exact.... ground beef, onions, carrots, lettuce, sour cream and salsa, with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese to hold it all together, wrapped in a whole grain tortilla shell....hmmmmmmm they were good.... the couple who joined us are older....he is 75, she is 64...I told R to tell them on the phone that we were having tacos....so that they would eat their bigger meal at noon....so I guess on the drive here the husband asks his wife...what are tacos.?.... as if....I have it all hot and ready to eat when they arrive and ask her to make one up for her husband...she does and we sit down at the table to eat....he doesn't know quite how to pick it up and of course holds it upside down so all the fillings fell onto the table...then he is embarrassed and peeved and scraps it up back onto his plate and asks for a fork....and proceeds to eat this messed up taco with a fork...and he only had one....and refused to have another....I felt really bad....because the rest of us including her had no problem eating ours....he was soooooo not impressed...and I could tell he was quite disgusted with this "foreign food" ....ahahhahahaha that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the evening....and eventually we played crib and us women beat their ass off....which made him even more peevish...and then R started getting petty about losing and they refused to quit playing until they won a game so finally B and I purposefully played crappy so that they would win a game and put us out of our misery. Children.....
I picked the first bunch of beans from the garden today and a zucchini...not bad since it was the 8th of June when I seeded it...ahahahahha the corn will be ready soon and the spuds are Delicious this year...not too many tomatoes so far though which is disappointing. we usually have some by now.... The hummingbirds are going insane right now...getting ready to start their migration south....I am making nectar every two days and it is not safe to walk out the door for fear of colliding with one or more as they whiz past either on their way to the feeder or in fear of another hummer chasing them. while I was in the garden early this am and it was so quiet out ...just the odd bird chirping and the whizzing sound of the hummers as they sped by...it sounded like a race track.....frooooooommmm zoooooommmmm ziiiiiiiing....vroooooooommmm pretty funny.
