Exhausted

We were up early this morning and I managed to get my lawn mowed...all 7 acres.   ahahaha I need to down size...it took me 4 hours and by the time I was done, I was wiped out... we had a quick lunch and then both went to put up the temporary fence along our neighbours land that has no line fence...so to keep our cows from stampeding out into his lovely hay crop we have to put up an electric fence..step in posts and ribbon wire...it really saves us huge headaches...but it is frustrating to have to put it up for one day and then take it down... i wish he would just fence his land....the cows moved well and it is only ever R and I doing it so we have a system...

The cows walk/run across the intersecting gravel roads and the up our road a mile to the gate into our other land...they cross a stubble field and into the bush pasture....we had to race the quads like hell to beat them...they ran across the pasture but we had to go around by the road...to beat them to the waterer and start it running....we made it but not by much...within 2 minutes the cows were there....they ran a mile and a half in the time it took us to race around the block....bloody bags....the calves were foaming at the mouth....they have never run so far...in there short little lives...I am wishing I hadn't gone out there though since it is quite depressing...there really is not a lot of grass growing inspite of having got an inch of rain this month.

We move the bigger bunch of cows tomorrow....it will be a bit trickier...since there are twice as many cows with male calves and they have to go twice as far on the road to get to their pasture....and there is another intersection at which we won't have anybody to turn the cows in the right direction... R goes ahead on his quad and I chase the cows out of the corral and follow on my quad....if all goes well...other wise it turns into a bit of a gong show.. i have to admit to getting a bit stressed over whether the cows will behave...and whether we can avoid having any traffic come along and try to pass the cows....they never let a vehicle pass and just try to out run it...usually in the wrong direction...hahahaha  People who don't handle cattle have no idea that the best thing to do is just stop your truck and wait until we pass...but there is always some retard who just can't wait 5 minutes....I feel like shooting their tire out...

I am totally exhausted tonight and am heading to bed...up early again tomorrow...ughhh
