Splendor

I Must Be INSANE
If you remember a while back I mentioned going to look for a replacement tree on my birthday...and in fact bought three. Well, we planted them all in the front yard for visitors to appreciate when they arrived...Which involved us having to take up sod and what not to prepare planting sights....which is going to now make mowing the grass there a real challenge...so the other day (and I don't know what I was thinking) I proposed we take up a bit more sod and create a new planting bed for shrubs and what have you. Well, you are all probably well schooled in how an innocent comment can take root and turn into a snarling tangled mass of trouble....ahahahah and that is exactly what it did....R liked the idea so much he phoned around for prices on more retaining blocks...(since our ground is so hard here that things need to planted partially above ground) yesterday he ordered me to measure it all out and figure out how many blocks we would need.....I was thrilled and aghast at the same time....if you know me at all, you know there is nothing more I love than to have a project on the go...I love building things...anything... If you have never built anything with your own hands, you don't know what you are missing...the sense of accomplishment is astounding...and the enjoyment of gazing on your efforts for years to come is very fulfilling.
I was aghast because I was not prepared to spend that kind of money on a whim....and am not really looking forward to the physical exertion that comes with most landscaping jobs....so I have budgeted to rent a sod cutter, since removing the rest of the sod is one of the biggest jobs involved...but we have to drive all the way to the city to get one for a half days work....bummer...besides, when the project is complete...I am the one who will have to plant it and weed it and try to keep the dogs from digging...but it should look lovely... I just hope the next owner will appreciate all the work, when it finally kills me off...hahahahaha
Today we drove west toward Jasper to landscape mecca to pick up the retaining wall blocks R had ordered....and brought them home... they were selling them for 50 cents less a block than in the city....and so on our order we saved $175. by going there instead.
We had lunch in a less than savoury restaurant and both ate the same thing, or we tried to but it was so bad that we left half of it on our plates... I am now suffering from an upset stomach....figures...but R is fine...must just be my touchy constitution...hahahaha
We will have to work on the project in spits and spats since R is still trying to get his crop in...yes he is still seeding....everyone Else's is up and 4 inches tall...but my man never gets in a hurry, and now is battling the intermittent showers, the worlds worst procrastinator....and I am a get it done now kinda gal...so you can imagine the frustration.....
I uploaded a group of photo's I took of our yard this spring to flickr....so check out the link on the right side of my page here and take a tour of my yard...I put up some other paintings as well. Hope you enjoy the tour. I will be adding new photo's once our big project is complete too of course...
